Ford’s electric crossover is dropping its smallest battery. The 2027 Mustang Mach-E makes the extended-range pack standard across the lineup, so the 73 kWh battery is gone. At the same time, Ford is adding a $2,295 Trail package with a small lift, all-weather tires and parts borrowed from the Mach-E Rally.
Ford opened orders for the 2027 model on October 22, 2026. The cheapest version, the Select with rear-wheel drive, now starts at $42,040 including destination. That’s higher than the 2026 starting price, but it now includes the bigger battery.
The Trail package arrives a little later. First deliveries of Trail-equipped cars are due in the first quarter of 2027. Here’s what changes and what the new package adds.
The 2027 Mustang Mach-E battery lineup

Until now, the Mach-E also came with a smaller 73 kWh pack. Now every 2027 Mustang Mach-E gets the larger battery. According to Ford Authority, the Select and Premium use an 88 kWh pack, while the GT uses a 91 kWh pack. Both figures are usable capacity, per that report.
CarScoops reports the same split and confirms that the 73 kWh pack has been dropped. So the lineup now runs from 88 kWh up to 91 kWh.
Ford hasn’t announced range figures for the 2027 cars yet, CarScoops notes. For that reason, this story doesn’t quote any. Owners will have to wait for official estimates.
A cheaper front motor
There’s also a change most drivers won’t notice. Both outlets report that Ford redesigned the secondary drive unit, the front motor used on all-wheel-drive models. According to Ford Authority, it delivers the same performance as the outgoing unit but costs less to build. In turn, Ford Authority says, the cheaper motor helps keep the sticker price down. That matters, because even the cheapest 2027 model now comes with the bigger battery.
What the $2,295 Trail package adds
The Trail package is an option on the Select eAWD only, so rear-drive Selects and the other trims can’t get it. First, it raises the car slightly, adding 10 mm, about 0.4 inch, at the front and 15 mm, about 0.6 inch, at the rear. Ford Authority describes the suspension as passive. Next, Ford fits the Rally’s steering rack.
The wheels come from the Rally too. They’re 19-inch alloys in High Gloss Dark Carbonized Gray, wrapped in Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires. CarScoops adds Carbon Black front bumper trim and a Trail logo on the center armrest.
The package also brings 400-watt Pro Power Onboard as standard, with outlets at the rear and in the cargo area. On the Premium and GT, by contrast, that feature is optional, per Ford Authority. Buyers can also add an Interior Protection Package with all-weather floor mats and a cargo-area cover. In addition, a Thule clamp-on cross bar kit is available for bikes and kayaks.
According to Ford Authority, a Mach-E Trail carries an MSRP of $45,290. CarScoops also reports that Ford engineer Nick Rallis pitched the Trail for driving off pavement, with added traction in winter.
Prices and timing
Ford Authority breaks down the entry price. The 2027 Select RWD costs $39,995 plus a $2,045 destination charge, for a total of $42,040. However, Ford hasn’t released prices for the rest of the lineup, CarScoops reports.
Other features shift around, too. Both reports say BlueCruise 1.5, Ford’s hands-free highway driving system, is standard on the GT with one year and 90 days of service. On the Select and Premium, it remains an option. Ford Authority says it comes with the optional Tech Pack Lite on the Select and the optional Premium Tech Pack on the Premium, again with one year and 90 days of service. Meanwhile, Ford Connectivity and Security packages come standard with one year of service, or as a one-time purchase.
Where the Trail fits
Both reports describe the Trail as a way to put Rally parts on the Select eAWD. As a result, a Select buyer can now get the Rally’s wheels and steering rack for $2,295. CarScoops adds that Trail buyers also receive 100,000 Ford Rewards points on top of the standard 22,000.
Orders for the 2027 Mustang Mach-E opened on October 22, 2026, and Ford Authority reports that Trail deliveries begin in the first quarter of 2027.
