BMW’s 2027 X3 M50 gains 44 hp for 437 in all and adds a $3,800 Black Package

The 2027 BMW X3 M50 xDrive gets 44 more horsepower, for 437 in all, and a new $3,800 Black Package that turns most of the trim dark. BMW of North America announced both changes on October 27, 2026. They reach U.S. buyers starting in December 2026.

The power bump applies to every 2027 X3 M50, with or without the new package. That matters, because the Black Package itself is pure styling. BMW says so in plain words.

Here is what changes under the hood, what the package adds inside and out, and what the whole thing costs once you add destination.

Where the 2027 BMW X3 M50 gets its extra 44 hp

The engine is the same 3.0-liter M TwinPower Turbo inline-six with 48-volt mild-hybrid help, according to BMW’s U.S. release. Output rises by 44 hp to 437 hp, which means the outgoing car made 393 hp. BMW also fitted an enhanced exhaust that it says sounds deeper.

The quicker numbers follow. BMW quotes 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds, or 4.0 seconds with a 1-foot rollout. That second figure uses the drag-strip habit of starting the clock after the car has already moved a foot, so it always reads a little quicker.

Europe heard about the update first. Carscoops reported on October 2 that the European car’s 0-100 km/h time drops by 0.2 seconds to 4.4 seconds. In addition, Carscoops tied the update to Euro 7 emission rules, which keep the engine on sale in Europe. By the same report, the new time sits only 0.3 seconds behind the discontinued X3 M Competition.

BMW’s release does not list torque, top speed or the transmission, so we won’t guess at them. Instead, the headline numbers are the horsepower and the 0-60 times.

What the $3,800 Black Package adds outside

The package is available only on the 2027 X3 M50 xDrive. Outside, it brings 22-inch Jet Black 1134M alloy wheels, which BMW says stretch the model’s wheel range by one inch. Other M light-alloy wheels stay on the options list.

The brake calipers turn high-gloss black, with a monochrome M logo. Meanwhile, the M logos and model badges also go high-gloss black, with silver outlines. According to Carscoops, the car keeps the standard M Sport bumpers and quad tailpipes, so the shape doesn’t change.

Inside the BMW X3 M50 Black Package

Most of the package’s content sits inside. BMW wraps parts of the driver-side instrument panel in black Alcantara. The same material covers the area in front of the central display, the phone tray, the door trim and the center-console armrest.

Next come the seats. The headrests get an embossed M logo, and the upholstery mixes black Alcantara with BMW’s Veganza, finished in blue stitching and piping. Carscoops notes that the Alcantara comes from the BMW Individual catalog.

The rest of the list is detail work. It includes M interior trim in an aluminum-carbon pattern, M seatbelts and black floor mats with an M-colored flag. There are also glass accents on selected controls and an M steering wheel with a leather-covered airbag module unique to the package. Finally, Dark Silver door sills carry a black M logo.

What the whole X3 lineup gets for 2027

Every X3, not only the M50, gets cabin updates from December 2026. BMW lists a PVC Softskin surface in front of the central display and new stitching on the instrument panel. It also adds ambient lighting in the center-console bin and the interior door handles.

On top of that, owners get a new glove-box opener and stainless-steel edge protectors for the cargo sill. None of these changes is dramatic. However, they answer the kind of small touches buyers notice on a $67,000 SUV.

2027 BMW X3 M50 price and timing

The 2027 X3 M50 xDrive starts at $67,500, plus $1,350 for destination and handling. Add the Black Package and the price becomes $71,300 before destination, or $72,650 with it.

Our take: the extra 44 hp is the bigger story, because it comes on every 2027 car rather than as an option. The Black Package is for people who want the dark look straight from the factory, and the Alcantara-heavy cabin is the part we’d pay for.

Either way, BMW’s release puts the start of sales for both the 437-hp engine and the $3,800 Black Package in December 2026.
