Husband Buys A Moldy 1992 Chevy Blazer To Surprise His Wife Because They Drove One While Dating, But It Needs A New Fuel Pump And Injectors First

Plenty of couples remember the car they drove when they first met. A husband named Tyler bought a neglected 1992 S10 Blazer to surprise his wife for exactly that reason, but it was too dirty to give her. So he called a detail shop that posts as @WDDetailing, and in four days the crew cleaned it inside and out and got it running.

“This is a 1992 S10 Blazer that was bought by Tyler here to surprise his wife with,” the host says at the start.

“She’s always kind of wanted another square body blazer,” Tyler says at 0:26. He explains that they had a Blazer when they started dating, but it rotted out.

Mold, Moss And A Truck That Won’t Run

The truck has thick green mold on the badges, a moss-covered roof and a moldy interior. On top of that, it doesn’t run, and Tyler says his wife wasn’t sure it could be cleaned up.

First, the crew blows off the loose debris, then soaks the paint in a pre-wash and pressure-washes it. Next, they degrease the engine bay and treat the paint with an iron remover and clay.

Along the way, they pull off the hood guard, a stubborn roof visor and a pile of old decals with Tyler’s OK. Under the hood, the host points to the 4.3-liter V6, which he calls the predecessor to the Vortec engine and very easy to work on.

Getting The 1992 S10 Blazer Running

Mechanic Adam finds clean oil and spark, but the fuel pump makes no sound. So the crew installs a new tank and pump. Even then, fuel reaches the line but doesn’t spray from the injectors.

Adam suspects the distributor, and a new one brings the injector pulse back. Still, it won’t fire, so he fits new injectors and a new fuel pressure regulator. After that, the engine starts and the Blazer drives.

Getting the old tank down takes a hard kick, the crew jokes. Then a test light shows no injector pulse, which points them toward the distributor instead of the injectors.

Interior, Wheels And Paint

Inside, the crew pulls the seats, then scrubs and extracts the carpet to treat the mold. After that, they clean the door panels, dash and steering wheel.

Earlier, Tyler had found original-style wheels on Facebook Marketplace, and they go on now. Finally, the faded paint gets a heavy-cut compound to remove the oxidized layer.

According to Tyler, the couple have known each other since high school and started dating in 2016. He also says his wife drives a manual, which matters because the Blazer is a five-speed.

What To Check Before Reviving A Truck That Sat Outside

The crew’s order of work is a good guide for any long-parked truck:

  • Blow off loose dirt before adding water, so you don’t grind it into the paint.
  • Listen for the fuel pump when you turn the key, because silence points to the fuel system.
  • Test for injector signal before replacing parts, since the cause may be upstream.
  • Treat mold in the carpet properly, because a quick vacuum won’t remove it.

The Reveal

Finally, the crew trailers the Blazer back while she still doesn’t know it has been gone.

“You guys did all that in four days?” she asks at 24:46. Later, she says it brings back memories, and Tyler says the plan was always to use it as a family truck.
