The Ram 1500 TRX is definitely not a quiet truck. With a supercharged V8 under the hood, it was built to deliver the kind of performance and noise that makes it hard to ignore. The Tesla Cybertruck takes a very different approach. There is no exhaust note, no engine revving before the launch, and no supercharger screaming in the background.
Put the two trucks side by side in a quarter-mile race, though, and the difference between them becomes obvious almost immediately. At Lordco River Valley Dragstrip, a matte olive-green Cybertruck lined up against a dark grey Ram 1500 TRX. When the lights went green, the Tesla got the jump and never looked back.
Two Very Different Trucks, Same Starting Line
The matchup brought together two trucks built around completely different ideas of performance. The Cybertruck took the left lane, while the TRX lined up on the right. Both completed their staging process and waited for the tree to count down.
The TRX certainly looked like the more traditional performance machine, with aggressive bodywork, a supercharged V8, and the noise to match. The Cybertruck, meanwhile, sat quietly alongside it. But once the race began, appearances stopped mattering.
The Launch Told the Story Immediately
As soon as the light turned green, the Cybertruck jumped ahead. The TRX launched hard as well, but the Tesla immediately started opening a gap. Within the first few seconds, the Cybertruck had established a clear lead, and the Ram was already chasing.
That advantage continued down the track. The TRX never looked slow in isolation, but next to the Cybertruck, it simply could not match the Tesla’s acceleration. By the end of the run, there was little question about which truck had won.
The Numbers Backed Up What the Eye Could See
The scoreboard confirmed what was already obvious from the race. The Cybertruck completed the quarter mile in 11.12 seconds at 119.14 mph. The Ram TRX followed with a 12.63-second pass at 106.96 mph.
That is a difference of more than 1.5 seconds, a significant gap over a quarter mile. The Cybertruck also crossed the line carrying more speed, showing that its advantage was not limited to the initial launch. The TRX put in a respectable run, but it simply did not have an answer for the Tesla.
Why the Cybertruck’s Advantage Shows Up So Early
What makes the result interesting is how quickly the race was decided. The Cybertruck’s advantage appeared almost as soon as both trucks left the line. While the TRX had to put its power down through a conventional gas-powered drivetrain, the Tesla delivered its acceleration immediately. That difference helped the Cybertruck build an early lead, and once the Tesla was ahead, the TRX could not close the gap. The Ram still brought the sound, the drama, and everything that makes a supercharged V8 entertaining. The Cybertruck brought the faster quarter-mile pass.
What This Means for Two Very Different Approaches to Power
The race does not change what makes the TRX special. The Ram remains one of the most outrageous performance trucks ever built, and its supercharged V8 delivers an experience that the silent Cybertruck cannot really replicate. But drag racing is not judged by sound, it is judged by the clock.
In this race, the Cybertruck crossed the finish line in 11.12 seconds, while the TRX needed 12.63 seconds to cover the same distance. The V8 made all the noise. The Cybertruck had the last laugh.
